The founder and leader of Living Christ Mission (Inc), His Grace, Most Revered Professor Daddy Hezekiah (MFR) has called on enlightened members of the public to vehemently condemn the Computer-Based Test (CBT) of the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for its inconvenience and exploitative nature on the candidates/aspirants of Nigeria’s tertiary institution.
The man of God stated this in Onitsha, Anambra, Nigeria as part of his Easter message and wondered why examiners should conduct exams to children in the wee hours of the morning (6am).
He said
“Nigeria is backward instead of moving forward by using computer to write JAMB. The policy is highly condemnable and it’s very unfortunate that Nigeria has educated men, yet they kept quiet for things to deteriorate. For those who passed the policy of writing JAMB with computer, do they know how to use it? What type of exams are they fixing for students by 6am considering how dangerous our country is? You could imagine that some candidates who sat for the exam in Asaba, passed the night at people’s house just to meet up by 6am”
The seasoned teacher noted that the exercise breeds exam malpractice because the exam which ordinarily should have been written simultaneously, took place different days with presumably different standards.
While identifying Nigeria as a confused nation, the prophet of the Most High God maintained that some candidates especially females in view of the dangerous terrain of the country, have reportedly been rapped and robbed while on their way to the exam before 6 O’clock in the morning.
According to him, some children were asked to pay #3600 in order to learn computer in readiness for the UTME. This he said was what happened when they made mathematics compulsory in schools, how many people know mathematics in Nigeria? he queried.
“I don’t know what is wrong with Nigeria. Professors write their own exams theoretically on paper with their own hands, why should they compel children to write with computer? How many of those children are computer literate? This shows how confused the nation is”, said the Industrial Chemist who holds degrees in various disciplines.
The Noble Father of Nigerian Youths therefore appealed to journalists and enlightened members of the public to criticise the computer- based test of UTME and call for total review of the exercise.
He further suggested that students should be allowed to write jamb exam as it was formerly done with paper and pencil while allowing those who wish to use computer for the exam to do so at their own discretion.
It could be recalled that a total of 1, 475, 477 candidates registered for this year’s UTME just as results were released two hours after the exam which commenced on March 9 and ended March 21, 2015.
